Live of Sri Jagannath Ratha Yatra in Jagannath Puri, Odisha, India
Sri Jagannath Ratha Yatra is one of the world’s biggest festivals celebrated in the holy city of Puri in Odisha, India where the huge wooden Deities of the Divine Siblings Sri Jagannath, Sri Baladeva and Subhadra Devi come out on huge richly decorated chariots (cars) called Rathas and give darshan to millions of devotees who wait anxiously to greet their Divine Lordships on Their way back from the Gundicha Temple where they stay for a week every year to their home in Jagannath Mandir/ Sri Mandir. The Ratha of Sri Jagannath is called Nandighosha(Charioteer is Daruka), while that of Sri Baladeva is Taladhwaja(Charioteer is Matali) and Subhadra Devi is Devadalana/ Darpadalana(Charioteer is Arjuna).
Lord Jagannath is known to be very merciful and hence called Jagannath i.e. Lord of the Universe or Patita Pavana i.e. the most merciful. He bestows His mercy on anyone who has His darshan or remembers Him irrespective of any bodily designation such as nationality, caste, etc. His wonderful pastimes are a great testimony to the said facts. Rath Yatra or the Chariot festival, this year happens to be Nabakalebara (Naba-New and Kalebara- Body) that comes once in 15- 19 years and the last Nabakalebara happened in 1996. It’s the time when idols Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Sudarshan are replaced by a new set of idols at the Jagannath Temple in Puri which is also known as Shree Khetra.
Thank you for the information. Jai Jagannath
