Narasimha Perumal Temple Devarmalai near Karur is a very famous and rare temple of Lord Narasimha with the Aghavana Mudra which is not found anywhere else. The temple is more than 2500 years old.
Devarmalai is situated around 35 kilometers away from Karur. In this small village there is a very beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Narasimha. The temple is constructed as per the Agama Shastras. Over many years in the past, the Narasimha Perumal Temple Devarmalai has been renovated by the Pandya and Nayakar Dynasties.
In modern times around 10 years ago, the temple was in a very bad state almost in ruins. Lord Narasimha appeared in the dream of a doctor and asked him to renovate the temple.
The origin of Narasimha Perumal Temple Devarmalai
Initially it was known as Devarmari, meaning to intercept. When Lord Narasimha was very angry after killing the demon Hiranyakashipu, the devatas intercepted the Lord here along with the great sages. They created a moksha teertha and performed the abhisheka of the Lord with those sacred waters. Over a period, this place came to be known as Devarmalai.
Lord Narasimha is in a Ugra swarupa. He flanks three eyes. Hence, He is also called as Trinetra Narasimha Perumal. The vigraha has four hands. The upper two hands hold Shankha and Chakra and the lower two hands are in abhaya and aghavana mudra. In this mudra, Lord Narasimha is inviting His devotees to come to Him and indicating that He is present for His surrendered devotees.
Temple of Mahalakshmi Devi also known as the Kamalavalli Thayar is present in the south corner of the temple.

The best time to visit the temple is from October to January which is a cooler part of the year. Remaining the region is quite hot to visit.
